About Us

At Special Scholars Early Intervention, we believe that every child deserves the best possible start in life. That’s why we’re dedicated to providing exceptional early intervention services that help children with developmental delays and/or disabilities reach their milestones.

Why choose Special Scholars Early Intervention for Early Intervention services?

The founders of Little Scholars had a clear vision from the start – help parents have their children lead happy and fulfilled lives. Observing a significant need for specialized services and a dearth of providers, the organization decided to extend its support to the field of early intervention, aiding children within our communities who require additional assistance.

To meet this need, a separate entity, Special Scholars, was established as an Early Intervention Program (EIP) provider. Special Scholars is an agency, devoted to providing home and community-based services for children with developmental delays and/or disabilities. It allows us to expand our impact and assist children in achieving their milestones, no matter the obstacles they face.

Our mission is to bolster children and their families by providing EIP services that promote autonomy, growth, and development. Every child and family we assist deserves to have access to an inclusive environment that fosters a strong sense of belonging.

Beginning Your Early Intervention Journey

Step 1

The First Hello

Reach out to Special Scholars Early Intervention either by phone call or email.

Step 2

The Discovery Phase

If your little one is eligible, a comprehensive evaluation will be carried out. This helps identify your child’s unique strengths and areas that may need extra support, laying the foundation for a personalized intervention plan.

Step 3

Crafting the Path

With insights from the evaluation, we will carefully construct an individualized plan, outlining clear, achievable milestones and the strategies to reach them.

Step 4

The Journey Begins

Now, your child will start receiving the carefully planned EIP services. These could be in-person sessions or even teletherapy, depending on what’s best for your child.

Step 5

Celebrating Milestones

We will regularly keep an eye on your child’s progress, tweaking the plan as needed to ensure they continue growing and learning.

Step 6

The Graduation

Once your child has achieved their milestones or grown beyond the age range of the program, the EIP services will come to a close. But not without a comprehensive summary of all the amazing progress your child has made!

Mrs. Mariana Korsunsky, 

The Advocate for Early Childhood Education

Mrs. Mariana Korsunsky has owned and operated Little Scholars Childcare Centers since 2013, when Little Scholars I was first launched. Ten years later, with a total of 6 centers operating and a nationwide expansion plan in place, Mariana continues to provide high-quality childcare for families. Through family engagement events and parent workshops, Mariana provides a wealth of resources to families and acts as a pillar of support for the community which she serves.

Mariana graduated with a Dual Master’s in Early Childhood and Special Education and holds professional licensure in each area. She spent several years in the classroom, before transitioning into Early Intervention, becoming a Special Education Itinerant Teacher and providing Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy.

With decades of hands-on experience helping children learn and develop skills, and a background as a professional educator and special education instructor, she not only recognized the growing number of children with special needs attending her own daycares but identified the need for more agencies and service providers to work with these children and their families. It was the desire to meet the needs of an underserved community and the sense of moral obligation to support children and families through their educational journey that fueled the fire from which Special Scholars Early Intervention was forged.

FAQ

The EIP and the early intervention services provided through it are specifically designed for children under the age of three who have or are suspected of having a developmental delay and/or disability.

The EIP is a publicly funded program supported by both the New York State Department Of Health and the New York City Department Of Health & Mental Hygiene.

To access EIP services, all children must be referred to their respective municipalities. You can contact your municipal agency at 311 to initiate the process.

The provider referenced in the marketing and advertising materials is an approved provider of EIP services. They have a contract with the NYC Early Intervention Office to deliver these services.

All services provided under the EIP are offered to parents at no out-of-pocket cost. However, it is important to note that health insurance can be utilized to seek reimbursement for early intervention services provided to eligible children and their families.

Eligibility for the EIP can only be determined by evaluators who are approved by the New York State Department Of Health and have a contractual agreement with the NYC Early Intervention Office.

If a child is found eligible for the EIP, all required early intervention services are identified in collaboration with the parent and must be authorized by the NYC Early Intervention Office. This ensures that the services cater to the individual needs of the child and family.

The NYC Early Intervention Office takes responsibility for arranging service providers who will deliver the authorized services. They consider the unique needs of the child and family while making these arrangements.

In cases where early intervention services are provided in childcare settings or community locations that require a fee, the parent is responsible for paying any associated costs related to accessing childcare or community facilities.

    Special Scholars Early Intervention holds a contractual agreement with the New York State Department of Health, Bureau Of Early Intervention, to administer Early Intervention (EI) services. Our program is authorized, regulated, and financially supported by both the New York State Department of Health and the New York City Department Of Health & Mental Hygiene. The Early Intervention Program (EIP) is a publicly-funded initiative aimed at providing support to children under the age of 3 who either show signs of developmental delays or are at risk of experiencing disabilities. Determination of eligibility for EIP can only be made by evaluators approved by the state and working under a contractual arrangement. All necessary ei services for eligible children are identified in collaboration with the parent and require authorization from the designated official at the NYC Early Intervention Office. The service coordinator will facilitate the arrangement of service providers, taking into account the unique needs of the child and family, as authorized by the NYC Early Intervention Office. Upon request, EI services can be provided at childcare facilities or other community locations. However, it is the responsibility of parents to cover any associated fees when availing services at these locations. It’s important to note that all EIP services are provided to parents free of charge, although health insurance may be utilized to cover approved services.
